Where to Stay in District 1, Saigon: A Tattoo Artist’s Recommendations

As a tattoo artist based in Ho Chi Minh City, I’ve had the privilege of working with clients from all over the world. Many are travelers who come to Vietnam not only for its culture and cuisine but also for unique tattoos that commemorate their journey. One question I often get asked is, “Where’s the best place to stay in District 1?”

District 1 is the vibrant heart of Saigon, offering something for everyone, whether you’re looking for luxury hotels, social hostels, or unique Airbnb stays. Here’s my personal take on the top places to stay, based on what I’ve learned from my clients and my own exploration of the city.

Airbnb Stays in District 1: Unique and Personalized

It’s honestly abit hard to recommend a good Airbnb due to many reasons. However, here are some guidelines and thoughts as we do stay in alot of Airbnb for staycations.

  • Lack of Recognizable Names

    • Unlike hotels or hostels with clear branding, most Airbnbs in District 1 are listed simply by their descriptions, such as "Cozy Studio with City View" or "Modern Apartment in Saigon." While these descriptions might sound appealing, they don’t provide the same level of familiarity or trust as established hotel names like "The Reverie Saigon" or "Liberty Central."

  • Older Buildings and Accessibility

    • Many Airbnbs in Ho Chi Minh City are housed in older residential buildings. While these buildings often have charm and history, they may not meet the expectations of travelers seeking modern amenities. Issues like:

    • Narrow staircases or lack of elevators

    • Limited signage making them difficult to locate

    • These factors can detract from the overall experience, especially for travelers with large luggage or those new to navigating the city's dynamic streets.

  • The Hidden Gem Dilemma

    • Despite these challenges, there are some beautifully designed and well-maintained Airbnbs in District 1 that offer a unique charm. However, finding these "hidden gems" can require extra effort in sifting through listings, reading reviews, and confirming details with hosts. Without a standard of consistency, recommending these stays becomes a gamble, as experiences can vary widely.

Why Choosing the Right Stay Matters for Your Tattoo Experience

Getting a tattoo is more than just an appointment; it’s an experience. Whether you’re staying at a luxury hotel, a vibrant hostel, or a cozy Airbnb, your accommodation can set the tone for your journey. I’ve found that clients who choose places that match their style and energy often have a clearer idea of the tattoo they want, making the creative process even more rewarding.

If you’re planning to get tattooed while in Saigon, District 1 is the best place to stay—it’s convenient, vibrant, and filled with inspiration at every corner.
